While yesterday's Grand Theft Auto V debut trailer revealed that the city of Los Santos would return in the open-world murder simulator, it was unclear whether this would be the only city. After all, when the Los Angeles analogue first appeared in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, we also got to visit GTA's versions of San Francisco and Las Vegas.
Rockstar issued the official announcement of GTAV today, confirming that it's in "a re-imagined, present-day Southern California," exploring "the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches."
The announcement describes GTAV as "the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created," and "a bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer."
"Grand Theft Auto V is another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe," said Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser. "We are incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans."
Grand Theft Auto V is in development at the core Rockstar North studio. Platforms and the release date are unannounced so far.
