Indie developer Nicalis has announced that the upcoming masochistic platformer 1,001 Spikes will indeed release simultaneously on all of its intended platforms this coming Tuesday. June 3 will see 1,001 Spikes release on PC, PlayStation 4, Vita, Mac, as well as on Wii U and 3DS with a few caveats.
Nicalis notes that the Wii U and 3DS version contain some known issues that nearly caused a last-second delay. However, Nicalis is forgoing the delay and opting to release these versions on time, noting that Nintendo will have an update ready to push out within days.
"Ultimately, we chose the latter because our fans want to play the game and we don't plan to leave our Nintendo fans behind on a game they've been patiently waiting for," Nicalis said. (via Polygon)
The delightfully 8-bit 1,001 Spikes is indeed one of those platformers where a death trap lies behind just about every corner, with players only getting 1,001 lives to complete the game. Players can opt to play the classic mode (which debuted in the Xbox Live Indie Games' original Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes) or play some new game modes with up to three friends in local co-op.
1,001 Spikes will also feature a number of hidden characters, many of whom can be seen in the trailer below. And some of them include a few cameos from across the indie gaming scene.
