Firaxis is landing a sequel to the jolly pleasant Sid Meier's Ace Patrol on PC and iOS this fall, publisher 2K announced today. Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies will bring the turn-based strategic aerial combat to the Pacific theatre, flying missions in battles including Pearl Harbor, Midway, and Guadalcanal.
While the original Ace Patrol was free-to-play on iOS but $10 on PC (since cut to $5), Pacific skies is a "premium game" on both. After the iOS version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown was well-received despite its $20 price tag, 2K may be gaining confidence in selling mobile games as just, well, games.
"A lot of feedback we got from players of the original game, especially on iOS, was, 'I just want to buy the whole game. Don't give me little piece here, a little piece there,'" Sid Meier told Polygon. "And that's how we're comfortable selling games, but again we're exploring this new marketplace and trying out different things."
As for what's actually new in the sequel beyond a change of surroundings, 2K doesn't really have anything to say yet. Here's a peek at the original game, for if it passed you by (that's the original up top too, as silly old 2K has forgotten to show off this new sequel):
