The Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9 is coming to a close. As it reaches its final hours, the development team at Comcept has prepared a concept video on what to expect.
Fans have already raised over $3.5 million for the project, beating the initial request of $900K by quite a healthy amount. Additional platforms were listed as part of the campaign's stretch goals, and so the game is now set for nearly every platform imaginable: PC, Mac, Linux, PS3, PS4, Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, and 3DS. Some porting will be handled by Abstraction Games.
But what is Mighty No. 9? It's a new game from Keiji Inafune, best known as "the creator of Mega Man." Taking many elements from his Capcom franchise, this 2D shooter stars yet another blue robot hero.
Here's the pitch:
You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages (or more, via stretch goals) you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!
It was only recently that the team released a concept video on what the game could look like on Unreal Engine. Using placeholder assets, this demo was developed in seven days:
The team is aiming for a spring 2015 release, meaning backers will have to wait a pretty long time before they reap the fruits of their moneys.
Shacknews' crowdfunding policy requires games to have a prototype for front-page coverage.
