Driver: San Francisco online pass scrapped; PC delay explained

Ubisoft has scapped the 'Uplay Passport' online pass for Driver: San Francisco, not out of the kindness of its own heart but because the codes were printed incorrectly in some copies. In other Driver: Frisco news, Ubisoft has insisted that the PC edition's delay was "natural," and is promising free DLC over the coming weeks.
"Due to a printing error on the insert of some copies of Driver: San Francisco in North America, Ubisoft has elected to provide the Driver Uplay Passport content for free," Ubisoft explains. "Although this problem does not affect players outside of North America, we have decided to mirror this offer to everyone in the world in order to be fair to all our players."
The single-use Uplay Passport code, included with new copies, is needed to unlock Driver: Fog City's multiplayer and Film Director modes. By itself, it'd cost $10. Hopefully Ubisoft will also scrap the Passport for the upcoming PC edition, whose three-week delay has finally been explained.
"The PC version trails the console versions because the code-base comes from the consoles," Martin Edmonson, founder of developer Ubisoft Reflections, told Eurogamer. "It wasn't held back."
It had been speculated that Ubisoft delayed the PC edition for fear of piracy, the same reason behind its now-toned-down unwieldy DRM.
"When we get to the point where [the console version] is finished, the PC guys take the final version of the code-base and do everything that's needed to build it into what they've already built," he said. "It's nothing like as long as many other games, where the PC can follow the console by many, many months - it's still fairly tight."
On top of all that, Eurogamer has word that new multiplayer content is coming for free to consoles. 12 new routes will be released for all modes on September 15, followed by one new route weekly for ten weeks.
