Nintendo turning off most Wii Channels in June

Now that the Wii U has been out for a while, Nintendo is making moves to start shutting down most of the 'Channel' services on the original Wii. Come June 28, it'll turn off the Nintendo Channel, News Channel, and more. Fear not, though: by and large, useful ones like YouTube, Netflix, and the Shop Channel will keep running.
The Check Mii Out Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Forecast Channel, News Channel, and Nintendo Channel are all on the chopping block, Nintendo announced today.
Exchanging data between friends on WiiConnect24 is also going, which Nintendo warns means "Wii message exchanges via Wii Message Board, Mii exchanges via Mii Channel, and exchanges of messages or data in some game titles will no longer be possible." Which is a bit of a bummer.
While the News Channel and whatnot were mostly Nintendo feeling out what to do with online services, WiiConnect24 was genuinely--though not massively--useful for some games. It brought free items to Animal Crossing: City Folk, ghost sharing in Mario Kart Wii, and other assorted niceties.
