Mega Man games to (eventually) appear on consoles, handhelds

Mega Man is having a pretty depressing 25th anniversary so far. After the cancellation of both Mega Man Legends 3 and Mega Man Universe last year, Capcom's classic mascot has all but disappeared. He's made a humorous cameo appearance in Street Fighter X Tekken, but his most recent game was Mega Man Xover, an iOS mash-up. Where does the character go from here?
"I can say with certainty that you've not seen the last of the Blue Bomber on consoles and handhelds, and, with luck, we'll be celebrating his 50th anniversary, including all of the games you’re going to enjoy over the next 25 years," Capcom's Christian Svensson told Nintendo Power (via Siliconera). "That said, an issue we've had in the past has been talking about games and announcing them before we're certain they're going to come out, which unfortunately has lead to profound disappointment for many fans. So for now, I'm going to have to stay mum about any details."
That statement may be vague, but it's more concrete than Mega Man fans have heard recently. The talk of disappointment is clearly a nod to the backlash over the cancellation of Legends 3, but that was fueled in part by the cult series being dormant for so long before its sequel was finally announced. It's hard to say just what Capcom has planned, but the commitment to consoles and handhelds at least means we won't have to use virtual buttons.
