Perhaps the most significant firmware update developed for the Vita handheld is the upcoming release of 1.80. Not only will the system update add support for PSone games, it will offer a bevvy of other improvements for owners of Sony's new handheld.
Available on August 28, firmware 1.80 adds new features like "Cross Controller," which allows you to use your PS Vita as a controller in compatible PS3 games, such as LittleBigPlanet 2 and Street Fighter x Tekken.
In addition, 1.80 lets you control the system menu with buttons, so you can stop smudging the system's OLED screen. Buttons will be support on the home screen and various applications, including Video and Music.
Vita's Music app will be improved with the ability to support playlists. You will be able to transfer playlists from a PS3 or iTunes. The Video app will be improved with the ability to adjust playback speed (a la PSP) and repeat play. The Photo app will add support for MPO files. Group Messaging adds the ability to attach photos to messages.
The web browser will support the rear touch panel, "allowing you to scroll through and zoom out of pages without obscuring the screen." The Maps app will also let you search for directions, instead of just a location.
