Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer details burst forth

When it comes to the multiplayer component of Gearbox Software's upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines, not a whole lot has been revealed. Our Steve Watts previewed the game's team deathmatch mode--but the developer has been pretty stingy with other specifics.
While the game's other modes have yet to be revealed, producer Chris Brock said that they will be "objective-based." He also confirmed that the co-op campaign will support up to four players.
Brock was a bit more forthcoming about whether or not the Predator will make an appearance (it won't), and where the inspiration for the multiplayer maps is coming from. "We draw inspiration for multiplayer maps from all the films, in addition to concept art and expanded Aliens universe content," he told the PlayStation.Blog.
When asked what it will be like to control the game's deadly Xenomorphs, Brock noted that a third-person perspective will be used, largely to avoid the visual disorientation inherent in characters that can climb on walls and ceilings. "Xenomorphs are obviously much more agile than their human counterparts, so they're very quick and have the ability to maneuver about on walls and ceilings," he said. "As you've seen before, every part of a xenomorph is dangerous, from their claws and tails to their 'little mouths' and acidic blood. They have a wide variety of ways to attack the marines."
Split-screen play has also been confirmed, and when asked if weapon selection will be loadout-based or if there will be pick-ups in-game, Brock cryptically alluded that the game might include a combination of both. Some of these weapons will be ones that have been alluded to in Alien canon, but that have never before been seen.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is expected to arrive for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 this fall.
