Though the 3DS is still doing swimmingly, the Wii U's struggles have Nintendo thinking about its future, and what part gaming will play in that. The company today announced plans for a new business branch focused on, in its own words, "improving people's quality of life in enjoyable ways," built on new hardware. Starting with health, down the trail blazed by Wii Fit, the QoL platform will head away from traditional games. Read more

While Nintendo does have the best-selling console in the US with the 3DS, all's not well. The company today issued its financial results for the first nine months of this fiscal year, showing profits are down 30% from the same period last year. In an act of contrition, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is halving his pay for the next five months. Read more

Nintendo has issued a statement denying yesterday's reports that it will be releasing mini-game demos on mobile devices as promotional tools. It chalks up the Nikkei report to a misunderstanding of Iwata's statements. Read more
