Super Smash Bros. Melee was one of the first games to come out on the Gamecube, and it still holds up today. This game is so perfect for parties, so replayable. And there's always something else to see. This is a game that delivers in all 4 major departments. Gameplay, Graphics, Sound, and Replayability.
Gameplay - 10.0
This is, without a doubt, THE best party fighter out there. Nothing even comes close to the pure mayhem you get when four friends come together to mash some buttons. No friends? No problem. There's so much to collect, play, and unlock, you're not likely to want to let your friends get near this for a long, long, time.
Graphics - 9.0
Great for it's time, as an early current-gen console. The game makers let on that they know what they're doing, and they do it well. Graphics aren't all polygon numbers. They're also eye candy. And SSBM delivers. Let's face it. It's just plain cool to see a giant Donkey Kong smack the ground, propelling all the characters off the screen. Imagination, check.
Sound - 9.5
Sure, it's not a majestic orchestra booming with tension and release. But you know what? We like it that way. The retro tunes in this game are enough to get any Nintendo fan nostalgic. What else is there to say? You know you've got a winner when you have to pay attention to the sound.
Replayability - 10.5
This game breaks the barriers of scoring here. Short of Animal Crossing, you are unlikely to ever find a game with as much replay value as this one, if you have more than one controller. Even so, this game is certainly more fun to play. It's difficult to put into words the sheer joy you get after popping it into the gamecube after a long hiatus.
So what are you waiting for? Grab a copy, a friend/slave, and get playing! - 10
