Essentially you hop around eating things and gathering tokens. The graphics are poor (some would say it adds charm), and the character designs are pretty lame (again, charm). You crawl around very, VERY slowly, and the controls are sloppy.
That being said, I played through this game front to back. I went back to get the necessary number of mutations, played the final boss, and generally had a good time playing it, and for the life of me I don't know why.
The main part of the game is eating things. More specifically, you eat beasts in a specific order so you can get the right color combo to mutate. You have to do this about 100 times so you can fight the "alpha beast" or whatever he was called.
Basically, this game thrives on quirkiness. It's fun to see how many animals can be made by jamming a few square polygons together in a vague creature shape. The solid color landscapes are kind of cute, and the limericks and poems in between levels and days are giggle-worthy.
This will not be heralded as a great innovation in gaming. It WILL be enjoyed by a small group of people who like goofy games.
