What does the fire upgrade for the Plasma Cutter, in Dead Space 2, actually do?

So far, later in the game, it feels fairly worthless, kindof a waste, just upgrade the Line Gun, and loser to the end of the game, the pulse rifle is going to be very useful. especially the ending.

The fire upgrade is as exactly what it says. Some of your shots from the cutter will set whatever you shoot on fire.

Don't let what people say about the plasma cutter upgrades put you down. Upgrade it, trust me. The fire might not make much of a difference, but the plasma cutter is still one of the best weapons in the game. Upgrading that and the contact beam is the best option.

it actually sets the necromorph on fire as he dies not really a big deal tho but if you want to spend nods on it then thats you.

Your question has already be answered. As JBlanton already said, it does "exactly what it says." When in the Bench, there is a section at the bottom that tells you in detail what stats you will be gaining for inserting which node. There, you can view a description of the weapon's Special.
