How do you get into the city of the Djinn, in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands?

I keep on opening a staircase that opens into the ground. When walking on the staircase, it falls out completely and I end up dying. I have tried running on walls or jumping to ledges but there is nothing..

Just stay on the part that starts falling. At the time you get to the end of the slide, you should be able to wall-run to a ledge and doorway.
