My game is only working about half the time. I put it in the wii and it reads to start with but when i try to play it it says there is a read error. Other times it plays fine. I put other of my games in and they work perfectly, so this is an issue with this game specifically

The game is probably scratched up. If you trying cleaning it a bit, that might fix the issues. On top of that, try playing another game you own. If that game works and the Mario Kart rental doesn't work, it's a faulty disc.
In the case that the Mario Kart game doesn't work and your other games do, tell GameFly to send you a replacement. Go to your GameQ, click on "Report a Shipping Problem," chose the game and pick that it was damaged in shipment. GameFly will send you a new copy.
