How do you ride Chocobo in Final Fantasy 13?

You have to beat certain missions in the game before you are able to ride Chocobos. You have to do missions 1-8, and 12-14. Mission 14 is in the area you will find Chocobos. Once you finish mission 14, you can walk right up to Chocobos to ride them.
