In Cabela's big game hunter 2010, how do you get the hunter to climb onto the log after you fall off?

I am unable to get the hunter to climb after falling off the log in mission 3: hunting the Feral Goat.

To avoid falling off, you tilt the gun the opposite way you are falling. Just tilt your gun from side to side like you are swaying to keep your balance. A few tries and you'll get the hang of it.
