My favorites are Super Smash Bros. Brawl when I have a friend or two over. Best adventure: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Best control: Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
Super Mario Galaxy is great too! Who doesn't like a Mario game?
Madworld is also supposed to be absolutely excellent, but I haven't played it yet.
Oh, and if you're feeling the need for a puzzle, Dr. Mario Online Rx (WiiWare) is surprisingly addicting.
Okami was supposed to be amazing as well. That's what I'm getting once I ship Halo Wars back to GameFly.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Mario Galaxy are all must-buys if you ask me. You might want to rent Metroid Prime 3, since it's so short and there's no multiplayer. And you don't have to play Metroid Prime 1 or 2 to play the 3rd. I played the 3rd without the 1st or 2nd and loved it.

Without a doubt Mario Kart. It has fun online and the campaign is nice and long.

I'm going to say Twilight Princess. It's the first title I purchased for my Wii, and years later I still consider it the best the system has to offer.

probably the nintendo essentials. Zelda, Maro Kart, Mario Galaxy, Brawl. Madworld is pretty fun though.

My current fave is Rune Factory Frontiers. I loved Super Paper Mario, too.

Super Mario Galaxy represents what I think the best game on the Wii is, it's fun, challenging, uses the motion controls properly (and doesn't over use them), and hey it's the best Mario game ever made (IMO) that's fitting enough for the best Wii game.

Not counting any ports, I'm going to say Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It's fun by yourself, and especially fun with friends. It has a lot of options to tweak your VS game, a fun 1P experience and target tests which can be addicting. There's also tons of trophies, songs and stickers to collect for fun. And don't don't forget online play. Basically, it can keep you entertained for a looong time, and is a must have if you own a Wii.
Ports that are really good include Resident Evil 4, Twilight Princess and Okami.

My favorite Wii game is Boom Blox. It was a surprise for me when it came out. It's great, it uses the controller really well, and it's a blast to play with friends.
