It was meant and planned as a trilogy but I'm sure some suit will come up with a bright idea with huge profit margins and Mass Effect will be resurrected in a "new" way…or not. Either way, it would be pretty cool to see Shepard again in some new kind of adventure.

While 3 was the end of shepards story bioware plans on making atleast 3 more mass effects with the storyboards for me4 already in the early stages and should be out late 2013 or early 2014 rumor have it taking place before me and during the first contact war as well as spliting into different branches as well as 4 player coop.guess we will see in about 9 months if anything happens untill than leviathain dlc should be out next month for me3 single player i cant wait.

Bioware has thus far stated, that the conclusion of ME3 has given them alot of time to develop the series. My guess is we wont see one for years.

Probably, but not this gen. They said the games are just too much for current systems to handle. Except for the PC of course. It won't follow shepherd though.
