Personally, I didn't care the game too much, and I'm a huge fan of the rest of the series. Then again, I know a lot of people out there really did like this game, whether they were already fans of the series or not. It's definitely hit and miss- since there is no combat in the game that might drive some players away right off the bat. The "chase sequences" can be annoying because of this. On the plus side, the game's environments are fun to explore, the story is decent (with multiple endings, too), and there's a neat feature where, depending on how the game "sees" you and your personality, the game will alter itself (monsters, accessible locations and cut scenes may change). You don't even need to play the other games to enjoy it, even though it's considered a "re-imagining" of the first game, it doesn't really have a lot to do with it beyond some of the character's names. if you are interested in trying it, I would suggest renting first. The game is also VERY short. You can beat it in just a couple sittings.
