How do I use the fishing rod in Harvest Moon Animal Parade?

Please tell me you use the Wii Remote as a fishing pole!

Press down on the Wii Remote and scroll over to the fishing rod. Now go to some water and press A to cast out your line and bobber. When the bobber goes under the water the remote will buzz so press A and you should catch a fish.
