I'm really undecided about which of theses games I should get first. I really like the setting and themes of red dead redemption, but something keeps telling me it won't be that good. With L.A. Noire i love the whole detective solves various crimes theme, but is it better than red dead redemption.

Games: Red Dead Redemption (X360)
People are being too nice to LA Noire, I think it's just because the tech in it is really really amazing. But graphics a game does not make. I'm not a total LA Noire hater (I played and finished it) but the actual gameplay mechanics of it were atrocious - it boiled down to an elaborate point-and-click with exceedingly long and mostly boring driving missions and crisscrossing the map.
...but the performance capture really is astounding
I think that RDR is hands-down the superior game. RDR has a beautiful and vast landscape to explore and there is always, always, something to do in those myriad locations - from main quest-lines to bounties to even the hunting challenges, all are engaging and rewarding. The story is surprisingly cohesive (and good) for such a large and open game. All the characters are well written and you care about them. The ending is one of the best I've experienced in a long time (I'd say more but I don't want to give anything away).
....oh and watch out for those cougars!

LA Noire is really over rated IMO, it had some good things in it but was broken in so many ways. Its a game that certain types of people will really enjoy but its not a great game on its own. Your interest in the Noire aspect really feeds into it. The biggest problem with it is you never really feel like you are in control of your character, he says the things you aren't thinking and reacts like you wouldn't, its a big disconnect for a game that is about presentation.
Red Dead I would go in solely for the story. I tried to play it and it just didn't grab me, but I don't like westerns. I just tried it because of the praise it got. So I don't have much to say here other than the game's scope and content far outweigh LA Noire.

Both are excellent games, you should play both of them when you get the time to. Which to play first, well, if you like the whole crime/noir theme then maybe you should try LA Noire first. Both are exellent games, but Red Dead I would say is SLIGHTLY better. So its up to you.

Both are great games but I liked la noire alittle bit better.I think If you have the cash then buy them both so you can spend the long time that they require.If I rent a great game I will buy it so I can put in the time to see everything.I dont like to keep the rentals for that long.

First, L.A. Noire and Red Dead Redemption (RDR) are two completely different games.
First, L.A. Noire is less action packed. It uses more of your brain. It has a lot of puzzles. Yeah, and it's long (3 discs for the XB360[also, that's what she said]). Anyways, the gameplay is slower than other games from Rockstar. The replay value isn't very much. At the end of the game you're stuck with your partner that follows you around and you don't have any weapons. All you do at the end is explore L.A. But L.A. Noire has a great storyline.
RDR is way more action-packed. It's a lot like GTA, if it was set in the Old West. You carry weapons, no partners and the replay value is way better. The storyline is okay. I mean, just like all of the GTA games I've played, the storyline isn't that great. The game has a sort of twist ending, but it's not that surprising. At the end though, you can run freely and shoot innocents. I would say go for RDR if you wan't action, L.A. Noire for puzzles and a better storyline.
