It's Halloween time! So, what's your favorite Castlevania game?

Let's bask in the holliday spirit by talking about one of the biggest horror franchises in gaming, Castlevania. What was your favorite game in the franchise?

Now I didn't grow up in the NES era, but I have gotten my hands on the original Castlevania game via VirtualNES.com (btw check that site out if you like NES.) It is fantastic! I love the atmosphere the game sets itself in and how many classic horror monsters are represented such as zombies, mummies, frankenstien, and of course vampires. It's difficult but it is a challenge worth playing through.

My favorite is Castlevania IV for the SNES. This game had the original NES games blueprints, but refined graphics and easier difficulty. I actually beat this game as a kid which gave me a great deal of satisfaction. Back in those days you couldn't beat every game like you can these days.

I also have a soft spot for the original Castlevania. This was one of my fondest NES games. It was incredibly hard so I never got that far. I know I could get past Frankenstein's monster. I think I would usually die at the dancing ghost boss. Seeing this game back in the late '80's was pretty cool. There were not that many games in the genre besides maybe ghouls and ghosts, and some horror movie games. By the way the Friday the 13th NES game is very good.

Honorable mentions would have to be Symphony of the Night and the new Lords of Shadow. I didn't play SOTN until it came out on XBOX live arcade, so it might be on the top of my list if I would have played it during its hay day.

  1. I liked Castlevania Lament of Innocence on the ps2. That game was so fun and the horror was represented so creatively. It was also very lengthly like we're talking 4-5 days of gameplay.

    1. umm i forgot the name but its super old im not sure if its what slayer said but you get multiple whips and at the end you have to fight the devil guy but all in all its amazing only downside...you have to run back and forth constantly
