I found software at the playstation store that claims will enable users to be able to play PS2 & PS1 games on the PS3. Does anyone know anything about this?

Older PS3's had the ability to play both PS2 and PS1 games. The newer consoles only can play PS1 games. The software your talking about is the HDD software I believe where you can allow a PS2 game that requires or uses the hard drive for it to work with the PS3.

No. If I'm not mistaken, the program you're referring to allows you to use PS2 save files on your PS3. But you won't be able to play them unless you have one of the few PS3s that are backwards compatible.
