My favorite was Dynasty Warriors 5. The charcters all had their weapons, there were 4 outfits to choose from, and each charcter had their own individual story which I prefer over having just one story for each kingdom. There was also musou rage, an opening edit, a camp where you can check out the stats of each charcter and see what more you need to unlock, and there was a lot of stuff to unlock. Also, to unlock a 4th weapon or item you had to do certain things to get it, which I think adds a little more depth and replayability. Basically Dynasty Warriors 5 has the most stuff out of all the Dynasty Warriors. Dynasty Warriors 6 and 7 got rid of a lot of stuff, such as opening edit and items. Dynasty Warriors 7 is staring to bring some of that back and fix the characters but it is not like the old Dynasty Warriors.
