I never played the first title, but as someone who played the second title through twice via co op, I would strongly suggest you go in expecting normal run of the mill gun play and lots of it. I would only play this game co op, playing it solo will probably leave you bored to be honest.

The only way to fully enjoy this game is if you have friend to co-op with. Other wise the AI partner is meh. The game is average if soloed.
