Would Mass Effect make sense if I went without some of the dlc?

Let's say I don't get the Overlord dlc and I import one of my saved files to ME 3. Would the Overlord events still have happened or would they have not happened at all? I don't want to spend money on several dlc for a game I'm only going to have temporarily, but I also don't want to miss out on what may be important parts of the story.

I think BioWare said this. I dont remember all of it. But thye said something like all the major DLC's will happen. So, if you define major I would say Lair of the Shadow Broker. But I dont know if you bought the DLC for the first Mass Effect you get a few side messages from the people in that DLC.

  1. That's hard to say. It depends on what you define as the important parts of the story. I've recently been re-playing both ME1 and 2 to get ready to import to 3. I have never downloaded any of the extras so I don't know if the dlc will even get incorporated, but I don't think that I've missed much by NOT downloading. I'm following the story just fine. But that overlord thing sounds interesting, I might just make those my first downloads. Thanks!

    1. in the DLC of ME1 you have the option of letting a batarian live. you see him again on ME2. so yes, DLC effects the decision tree.

      1. I don't believe not downloading the DLC will make you miss out on anything big when playing future games. If it would, that would be a very bad design issue on the gamemakers part.. Sure, there might be a little thing here and there.. But think of it this way: You didn't play the DLC, so you have nothing to miss later on.
