Are you saying while downloading a patch for a PS3 game you rented it freezes?

I would call Sony on that one, I am not sure if the game disc even plays into downloading a patch other then launching the update checker.

Make sure the disc is clean and if you can run the disc on another system and see if it happens there to. Good luck :).
