You are mixing two separate issues. 1. All games cost $60. 2. Trade in value of those games being lower than what would be expected.

1. The $60 a game is partially retails fault and also marketing by gaming studios but mostly its our fault as consumers. Retailers want the highest premium per game. When someone like EA says we have a MSRP $40 game we want to put on your shelf bestbuy is thinking not of a cheaper sale but of the fact they are going to make less money per game. Marketers keep people thinking that there is more value in a $60 game then a $40. The biggest offender is us. We buy crappy $60 games but will often scuff or wait for price drops on games that come out for cheaper even if they are really good games.

2. You get a lot less money for a few reasons. The convince of credit to buy games right now, the fact that gamestop doesn't know how long that game is going to sit on the shelf, mostly because people will trade it anyway. There is alot more to say but not enough space :).

Unreasonable? no
I think it would be nice for lesser quality games to cost less but for those games there are other options. You could simply wait a month or so, or rent the game if you do not feel its worth it. paying extra for first dibs and extras make sense to me even if the game is not of the greatest quality. Time sorts out which games are worth the premium.

Developers put years and millions of dollars into their games and expect all that hard work to bring in a luxurious profit, so is 60 dollars unfair, no, its not. It is pretty expensive, but putting myself in a game developer's shoes, no its not unfair. Games got more expensive because more money is being put in to make them nowadays, a LOT more. And plus I only buy games I am almost sure that Im going to like a lot. I havnt bought a game I didnt like in about a year and a half. So I feel fine with it.

But have you ever ask how much of hard work did Team Bondi put on LA Noire, have you seen the graphics?

Anyways, you're not just one person that makes a video game, you need sound creaters, graphics designers, gameplay designers, terrain designers, flash designers, characters designers, progammers, etc. If you want a game to be online, you need to server host it, it pretty much takes about 10-100 millions to make a game, depending on the company and the setting of the gam, but for example GTA IV cost 100 millions to make it, and about 6 years to make it.

i agree with you , gamestop buying your used copy of noire for like 15-20 $ then turning around and selling the same game for like 3times that. i sold my copy of fable 3 at gamestop for like 10$ and they to this day are still selling fable 3 used for like 35+ dollars, i get irritated by the thought of another gamer having to pay like 40$ for a used copy of a game that if it were used in another store like a pawn shop or swap meet they could get it for half that but then again you kind of make out sometimes at game stop it just depends on how new the game is and how many copies the store has.in general it's a love-hate relationship with gamestop,

Game stores are cheap on trade-ins because they need to sell it again for more than they bought it off you for to actually make a profit. If you're not satisfied with how much you get for them, you could try selling games on amazon or ebay; you can name your own price.

Also, this is something I've seen people do a lot, but it exploits GameStop's policy. You can buy a pre-owned game, play it, finish, and bring it back before 7 days after the purchase and you'll get a full refund.

I want to agree with you, we all do. But the thing is a ton of money is put into the games so they arent getting as much profit as you think they are getting. I agree new releases are incredibly expensive. i say a perfect price for a game is 20-40$. So is it unfair? yes. Unreasonable? no.

Just-released games do cost more, but not always $60. But mostly in the 40's or 50's. I suggest buying games a few months after to get lower prices, or buy used.
As for the selling debacle, I'd say yah, it can be hard to get a good deal on your games. try using eBay or like Amazon.
