First of all, if the going gets tough, the tough get going and lower the difficulty. No seriously, unless you're going for a trophy or trying to prove something, lower the difficulty. I can't offer too much help as, not only does everyone have their own fighting style, every character responds to that style differently. You want to make much use of teleporting, blocking and grabbing. If you're backed up, use the superman. In a sparing situation there are some spam options. 1) Spam teleport, uppercut 2) Spam teleport, superman 3) Spam teleport, jab combo 4) Spam lightning ball and superman/teleport when they get close. I'm assuming you're referring to the end of the story mode. The only difficult part should be the last fight. (against Shao Kahn). All you have to do is wait until he throws something, then just teleport/upper cut. It will work eventually. If you go to main menu, there's a option to turn story mode to beginner difficulty.

what i did was when he threw the spear or hammer i would teleport then uppercut

If your talking about when you go to quan chi for help in the story, I spammed the superman move and it worked pretty well. If your talking about the final fight against shao kahn then I spammed the teleport uppercut. the final fight I lowered the difficulty.
