I love the Zelda series it holds a special place in my heart. It is one of the best action adventure games out there. The charm of each game stands out and it just feels good playing a game in that series.
That being said I feel the new Zelda titles hold up when compared to older titles in the series but outside of that comparison the games are showing their age. They really need to make enemies harder, battles more visceral, the story more engaging and the world more believable.
I strongly feel that none of the games in the series live up to today's standard of gaming in many categories not related to graphics. I really wish a new developer, perhaps a more modern developer preferably from the western world would pick up the series and introduce many of the aspects that make AAA games compelling today. With Myamoto at the helm I don't see this as being a bad thing. The series needs to make itself relevant to a wider audience of gamers that would enjoy it if it weren't for these downfalls.
