It exceeds my expectations. The game is very clever and is something completely different. which is very refreshing from the pack of very similar games being released lately. I like the fact the focus is on the investigations and interrogations. The interrogations are immensely satisfying when you nail them. Moreover, the story is very compelling.

kind of in the middle. I think it was a great twist on usual gameplay, and it did something different and i like it. However, it did get very repetitive. Get the case, find clues at crime scene, chase the bad guy, interrogate, repeat. Overall, if a sequel does come out of this, i believe they will do a much better job at it and hopefully answer the problems of the first. Another being better investigations of crime scene. I really didnt feel as if i was looking for clues, more as me running randomly around the map waiting for my controller to vibrate.

Wonderful game. Can't wait to see what Rockstar Games is going to do next.

All I can say, the reviews said it wasn't as good as it was supposed to be.
Yes, this game got 9's and 8.5's, but that was not what we were expecting. With all this facial technology, gripping story, and enviroment, we and the developers at Rockstar were expecting 10's.
Now my opinion is that this game ranks about a 9. Everything was amazing, but once you reached the 14 hour mark (out of the 22-24 hours), you loosed some amazment. 18 hours into the game, you found it to be a bit repetitive. Once you reach the 20 hour mark you want to yell "I want to find out the ending already!!!".
I think that this game was a bit underestimated. This is my honest opinion. Hope this answers your question.

[+'s] Rich and layered story. An adult theme runs throughout the game and doesn't insult the gamer. Size of the world is impressive. The MotionScan tech is outta this world, simply the best aspect of the game. I am very excited about the future uses of this tech.
[-'s] The mechanics were very flat, akin to an old school hunt-and-click investigation game. During case you inspect the area and victim(s), but there are only limited hot-spots that you investigate. Those 'investigations' involve simple clicking on the pre-defined area, there is no depth or intuition. The much hyped interrogations are simple response trees - this aspect felt like a choose-your-adventure minus the mortal peril. The story takes to long to unfold. Speaking of unfolding, the newspapers do not fit well in-world, I consistently felt way ahead of Cole and wondered why he wasn't figuring this out. The size of the world is not properly exploited, the 'street crimes' often take place far outside of your area of operation, which was a drag.

I think its impossible for a first in franchise to exceed expectations due to the fact even though you know what kind of game it is at launch you don't really know what is in store. Much like in a Sequel you want your expectations exceeded because the title is a known quantity at that point.
The game met my expectations in many ways. The idea behind the game was fully conceived. I never felt like there wasn't enough game to keep me interested. The way cases were introduced made it easy to walk away and feel satisfied. Attention to detail really brought you into the world, not just the environment but the lack of tools used while being a detective back then.
But what hit home the most was the way the police operated and corruption present in the game. Police were allowed to be police back then, they were allowed to do what it took to get the job done unlike today. There were so many little adult themes explored case by case that really made this game stand out, but I don't want to spoil.
