Online play pass? is it really the only method to make up for lost third party sales because of gamestop?

First thing's first, gamefly isn't going anywhere if anything they're in a surplus with basically no other form of competition anywhere to be seen. Now to the question, in short no. The company's want you to keep their games and to reward you to purchase, and not rent, new games they'll include these passes. If gamefly were to make a deal it would cost a substantial sum of money. I don't think gamefly would want to cough up that money unless they needed to because right now people are still using gamefly. So in the near future there's no way gamefly would make a deal with a company for these online passes

The purpose of the online pass was to prevent people from renting games.
So therefore the answer is no, GameFly will NOT be making any kind of deal with companies to get online passes.

Most games that come out give you a grace period of online play without the Online Pass, EA's is 30 days, I think Mortal Combat was 7 days. These company's are more trying to hurt the "Used" game market, not so much the rental market, they know people are going to rent games, they just wish that people would stop buying used games.
