the club calibrating is to optimize your performance depending on the course. If you are playing on a wide open course then you can tune your clubs to increase your range. If your playing on a course with a lot of turns and trees then you can tune your clubs to make them more accurate. you can also make it spin more/less, curve the ball, change the angle of your shot, etc.
