Yeah it's kind of lame, but they actually did that back in the NES days. The original NES run of Punch-Out featured Mike Tyson, but after various Tyson scandals they decided he wasn't a good role model for kids, and had him replaced with a fictional character named Mr. Dream. So even in the original NES carts, half of them are Mike Tyson, and about half of them are the version on the Virtual Console sans Tyson.
