When I talked with the developers at GDC last year, they said they wanted the game to be an FPS with Diablo-like elements.

To be honest, it's not really the story or the environment, it's the sheer mass of weapons you can obtain while in game while making it fun.

I have no chance against Transience8985 but heres what ill say, It's great! one of my fav games, I love the comedy, the limitless weapons, cool add ons, millions of side quests, playing with my bro split screen, exploring for new things, spending level points (points you get for leveling up), and just replaying it, add ons are more fun then the game itself but I give it a 9.4/10 compare that with CoD's few weapons, barely any split screen, no leveling up, replay level is low except for multiplayer but thats too "in your face" to like... so yea every CoD is the same and I think borderlands huge variety is a breath of fresh air in shooters, plus the art style is unique and very fun to play in "omg the ground has an outline... my gun has an outline! you have an outline!... I have a blurry outline.. ok there its better" =) hope this helped!
