Question: in the game defiance, will it have some sort of mode that is not online like a campaign mode?

Answer: No. The game is absolutely online, and you must go online to play it. You can play without a group or with a group, but there is no Off-Line mode. Otherwise as answered, purchase of the game is free to play. There is no monthly subscription. If you play by XBox, you will have to have Gold to play, but nothing that you pay monthly to Trion (the game developer). The only added costs are optional boosts you can buy to improve your character or speed up your character progression. Downloadable Content is anticipated as being free to purchasers through and through, even future expansions are currently anticipated to be free (though some limited content within them may have charges to activate).
