Question: In Batman Arkham Asylum,why were the thugs clapping for you at the end?

Answer: It's just part of the Joker's weird humor. Like firebird said, he is congratulating you on getting that far but it is also part of his whole party theme. Throughout the game he regularly mentions that the whole thing is a big party. So, since Batman and the Joker are the stars of the party all of guests (the thugs) are clapping, welcoming you to the final event of Joker's wild party. On a side not, did you know you get a trophy for knocking out all of the hechmen welcoming you? I didn't know that and didn't beat up all the henchmen. Don't know why I didn't since it would have been fun either way.
