Once I started playing this game, I've had trouble putting it down. The story is nothing you never heard before if you're a seasoned gamer. Trouble threatens the land and you are the chosen one; you must travel the land and traverse dungeons to attain items of power with which to save the world. But this game does what it does very well, which is give you lots to do and many foes to fight, and a big world to do it in, all while being extremely user-friendly.

The controls are easy and comfortable. Nothing is over-complicated. It's an overhead action-RPG with 3D graphics, but thankfully no camera control to get in the way of the gameplay. You hack and slash with multiple party members, all of whom get very flashy special attacks with their individual weaponry as the game proceeds. It's very old-school Zelda-ish. You make your way to a dungeon, get an item inside that enables you to make it to the end, and the item allows you to explore new areas, such as the talisman that lets you breathe underwater. You meanwhile fight lots and lots of monsters, using the money and materials they drop to purchase or synthesize new weapons, armor and/or items. The gameplay is fast and furious, the graphics bright and colorful, the story is rudimentary but has a neat twist in it, the game has varied enemies and bosses, and even the music is great.

Overall you can't go wrong with this game if you want something to keep you busy on your PSP.

Awesome Action RPG

If you like RPG's I'd recommend picking this title up as it'd be worth your time.

Story: The game starts off with our main character and his best buddy Dogi, visiting a new land. From there you start to visit shrines around the land and obtain powers from the 5 Dragons that created the land. The story isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either.

Graphics: I can't complain about the graphics for this game at all. For it to be a 3D action RPG, the graphics are pretty good. The character's weapons sprites change respectively when you equip new and different weapons. The skills are animated very nicely as well, and I am hard-pressed to find anything choppy or out of place.

Sound: Love the soundtrack for this game, and might actually pick it up. It's different, and a lot of the songs have a violin in them. Of course the boss themes are the best, because they sound so epic.

Gameplay: What's there not to love about an action RPG? Now when I say "action RPG," it's an RPG, but it's not turn based at all. Its all real-time, you can dodge, attack, and use skills all in real-time. The game has difficulty options as well, so for those of you who like a challenge you can play on Hard mode or Nightmare. The game itself already poses a challenge, the healing items you can carry are very limited, and boss battles can be tough. I played the game through on hard, and found it challenging but enjoyable at the same time. There are quests that you can undertake from people, and extra bosses that you can fight. The skill system is pretty cool as well. You can equip up to 4 skills at a time, and skills are learned through weapons. Each weapon has a skill, use the skill enough and you will get it to lvl1. After the skill is lvl1 you no longer need that weapon to use the skill, but you can continue to lvl the skill to build its power. Skills are lvled simply by using them.

Overall: Very good game, with plenty of action and enjoyable boss fights and music.

I am a MHU addict. So far nothing has come close to the hunting experience but Ys Seven is very close. Yes this is an rpg and you do have to thumb through some dialogue, as well as trip a few hard to find cut scenes but the game play is great.
Fighting is quick, accessing the menu and moves very easy on the psp. I only have a few hours into the game but I like the boss challenges and will probably play through again at the toughest level. If you love rpg's like DQIX then this is for you (but on the psp). If you don't love rpg's give this one a shot as it has a good story but you don't have to spend a lot of time thumbing through dialogue to get to the action. Well worth the rental and $25 keep it price.
