Let me guess you have a psp you got just through playing Ys Seven and you want to try the other games in the franchise or you want to get into this franchise and want to start with this game since it is the first in the series.

First what you should know Ys 1 & 2 are two separate games that follow the same story-line Ys 2 picks up where the first game ends. The story while very innovative for 1988 may seem cliche now with over saturation of the rpg genre basically Adol our red haired hero must defeat evil and save the world from demons. Ys 1 & 2 are not games you should underestimate they are hard you will die a lot especially from the bosses notably Dark Fact from Ys 1 but there is satisfaction in the victory of a once tough for. The gameplay is extremely simple to defeat enemies you just run into them and I am not kidding about this you just bump into enemies to kill them but, you must be careful with how you run into them. Level grinding and upgrading your equipment are mandatory in this game. Also the first game is well known for getting most new players lost so a guide is highly recommended. Ys 2 is much more linear and a lot easier due to the inclusion of magic which gives you a ranged attack that is upgradable.

By far though the best aspect of Ys Chronicles is the music this game lets you choose between three styles of music and they are all really great my personal favorite track is "To Make An End To Battle" which plays in the intro to Ys 2.

Still For the person interested in the Ys franchise I recommend starting with Ys Seven it is much more user freindly and easier to get into. For those interested in this game there have been numerous releases of this title there is the DS game known as Legacy of Ys or you could get my personal favorite the Turbo Grafix 16 game on the Wii's Virtual Console which will only cost you eight bucks. Still for those who would like a more refined translation and can endure a lot of punishment it makes a great rental.
