So of course I have to make the obligatory NG fan statement first....I have played every single game since the NES days on every system including the DS one and beat most of them on every difficulty level and in general am a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE, Ninja Gaiden fan!! I have earned my stripes as a Master Ninja for sure. That said, I pay attention to new releases and knew from the beginning that this was NOT going to be a traditional NG title.
Put it to you this way, as also being a massive Aliens franchise universe fan, this game is to the NG series what the AVP movies are to the Aliens universe. That is to say, it's a fun, alt universe ride that is in no way official canon and should not under any circumstances be taken seriously however, you can still enjoy it IF you enjoy it for what it is and NOT try to fit it into the lineage of the core universe of the series.
Team Ninja did NOT hide this as being a comic book animated, extremely easy to play beat 'em up zombie game and the reviews I am reading make it plainly obvious people didn't know this and were expecting another NG installment that they would be used to. This was NOT a surprise let down like the original version of NG3 was. Anyone complaining should have read p on the game over the past few years to know what to expect.
Am I saying the game is the "Best Ever" and worthy of retail price? Heck no!! Is it worth a play and maybe picking up on the cheap to 100% the game? Yes! Frankly I'm ready for a legit NG4 with everything in it that was missing from the first 2 in NG3 and NG3: RE (which was much improved obviously but you know what I mean) but in the meantime this is a fun game IMO.
Honest rating a 6.5 if I could give it that but 7 will have to do.
Couldn't even stay interested long enough to complete the first level. It reminded me of Batman but worse combos and the game play was faster. Also the complete cliche of using zombies, ninjas, and robots. Terrible, terrible game.
