Good Game

There hasn't been a decent turn based strategy game released in quite some time and Xcom does a great job of representing that genre. The difficulty settings are a bit deceptive as even the Easy mode will present a pretty moderate challenge to players that are not use to the game style.

While the game is considerably fun, there is a lot of problems (at least some that I encountered). The game lags terribly during scenes with a lot of atmosphere like rain, smoke, fog, so forth. I also found myself constantly having to reset my console due to loading glitches that would cause the game to freeze. The textures are a bit lifeless, the story, while interesting, lacks a truly gripping depth that I look for in my games. And finally, maps repeat constantly in long games. I feel that the game could have spent a bit more time in development to take advantage of the abilities the PS3 has to offer.

Despite the flaws, I encourage players to give the game a shot. I had fun with it and give the game a 7/10.

Best Game I Own

First the good: Seriously this is the most enjoyable game I have ever played. I couldn't put it down! But to be fair, I really love turn based strategy games and I really loved the original X-Com. This is everything the old one was with great graphics and more a more realistic experience.

Couple bad points and the only reason it's a 9 for me and not a 10. The ending is buggy. I had to save it bit by bit in order to finish the game. It would freeze up randomly quite often and the final movie scene played without any sound. Also it seemed a little short (although this could be just because I poured so much time into it).

I haven't tried the multi-player part yet but I am glad they included it to expand the playing experience. I will still go back and play this again but I do look forward to downloadable expansions for this one! Bravo 2K games for bringing such a wonderful game to the PS3. I was hooked from start to finish! Please patch a fix for the ending though!
