I knew there was going to be problems with the game when Cowboys and Indians team up to take the player out.
Wild West Shootout is a on rails shooter where you (and maybe one other person) shoot everything that moves, like the cowboys and Indians - and some things that don’t move, like boxes, caged animals and other destructible items.
The main mode is Story Mode that, well, has no story in it. There’s no cut scenes or any in between scene treats - you go from one level right to the next, and when you’re done, it’s back to the Main Menu. It looks like Zoo Games got lazy as they made this game.
You do get a good selection of weapons that include a six shooter, a pair of six shooters, a rifle, a shotgun and a whole bunch of dynamite.
If only your opponents were as varied - all they consist of is are a bunch of guys running about while sometimes shooting at you. Some are very small and can’t take more than a few hits, and some are very large and can take more hits.
Every three levels you get a boss battle which is just okay. The main mode takes less than one hour to get past, even with the multiple paths included for almost every level, and I have little reason to go through Story Mode a second time.
Once you’re done with the Story Mode (with one or two players), you can try the Wanted Mode. Here, you’re given a list of seven achievements (free a certain number of animals, shoot a number of cowboys, and so on) for every level in the game.
Problem is, if you want to get all seven, you’ll have to go through the level seven times, one for each achievement, and by this point I’m way past bored with this game.
Wild West Shootout needs better presentation, story, and more varied enemies. SKIP IT.

Wild West Shootout

I only played it one day, and didn't try the 3D version. The normal version was okay but not spectacular. I didn't run into any repeating levels, but it is a little repetative because you keep shooting the same type of targets over and over again as the game guides you through the level. You don't have control over the game. You shoot the required amount of targets to advance, or the time alotted for that area, then the game moves you to another section. The reload time is kind of slow, which allows the enemy to inflict damage on you while you're waiting.
