What can I say about this title? It failed on so many levels it was pitiful. The promotional art was beautiful and stylistic. I was drawn to the main character instantly. She was like something straight out of a 1970's grindhouse action flick. I imagined all the cool moves and awesome banter that would take place in this high-paced action/ adventure. All that disappeared when I saw the first cut-scene. The characters were horrible. The graphics in this game would have looked good ten years ago, but can not compare with today's quality. I wrestled with clunky controls and an aiming reticle that was nearly impossible to see. but after getting the sensitivity figured out I began killing bad guys with no problem. I enjoyed the game for about an hour as I learned all the neat things Ruby was capable of, but it was nothing I hadn't seen before. All her moves are straight from other games. Ruby can wall run like Prince of Persia, she can flip from pole to pole like Lara Croft, and go into slow-motion like Max Payne. There were no cool finishing moves, no neat sword tricks, and after an hour, nothing to break up the monotony of killing the same group of bad guys in slow-motion over and over again. The game consists of running a rail shooting two or three baddies at a time until you come to a big "arena" where you shoot a bunch of baddies at once. Aside from the boring game play, the story becomes ridiculously stupid. It "jumps the shark" with a number of "What the F??" moments like falling from a plane with no parachute and having a gunfight with guys who are also falling to their death. YEAH... Boring, monotonous, repetitive, uninspired, banal. I need a thesaurus just to describe how big a let down this title was. Bethesda needs to stop hiring junior high school boys as writers and maybe find some CG artists who actually finished college. If you play this game you will not remember it in six months. Do not waste your time.
I would be sending this game back the same day I got it, were it possible. It'll be going out in tomorrows mail you can be sure of that. I played and loved the demo I got off Xbox live, but the reality of it was so much worse. Prince of Persia style platforming sounds amazing, to anyone who played and loved those games, yes? The problem with this was that Prince of Persia, at least the SoT serious, had a mechanism in place to deal with instant deaths. Take out rewinding time, and all your left with are some infuriating platforming sections that you will be redoing (loading screen included) every time an awkward camera angle or some other such rubbish gets you killed.
I couldn't even make it through the entire game, because I got so angry at the many, many deaths I had to go through to figure out certain platforming sections.
TLDR- Great idea, terrible execution. Don't waste your time.
