A man must choose between fortune and family in this gritty action/crime drama. In 1988 New York, a crime wave fueled by an explosive new drug trade threatens to drown the city. Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix) is right in the middle of it. Bobby manages a Brighton Beach nightclub that's a favorite of the city's biggest gangsters. He's on the way up, poised to hit the bigtime and open a Manhattan hotspot. But Bobby has something to hide: he's the son of a legendary police chief (Robert Duvall) and has a brother, Joseph (Mark Wahlberg), who's a captain on the force.
