After reading some of the initial reviews that mentioned stiff driving mechanics among other shortcomings, I was hesitant to purchase the game and instead opted to rent it. While far from a polished product, a la Call of Duty, it is still a very good title and one I'm glad I took a chance with. The story, like just about everything else from Ubisoft, is well-written and highly-entertaining. Graphically speaking, this game is very impressive—from the detailed cityscape, which is unlike anything I've seen on a console, to the way the sun light reflects off of Chicago's skyline or the recognizable landmarks throughout the city—all of which make traveling enjoyable.
That said, GTA does in fact have WD beat when you compare driving vehicles, but it's far from being a reason to NOT try the game. Additionally, when you consider Ubisoft and their "Assassin's Creed" background, I was very disappointed with how "stiff" the main protagonist, Aiden, is when it comes to him on foot. For instance, he can scale large dumpsters, vehicles and buildings, but if you try to climb waist-high boulders while in the park or in the suburbs, the game doesn't recognize it as a climbable object. There were also a handful of occurrences when characters you were completing missions with would basically "freeze" instead of following you on to the next step of the mission, which resulted in having to re-start missions in order for them to "un-glitch" themselves. Suffice it to say, it got frustrating at times.
Overall, it was definitely a fun, entertaining game and one that I would recommend to anyone and everyone.
Just don't try to climb the rocks when you're being chased by someone.
Play the game for yourself, I've really enjoy this game you can do so much. What's great about this game which other products have lacked is authentication of the people. I.e people are rapping in the street or the other citizens will call the police. I understand that the graphics are not top of the ' but they have started a really good series. Please play the game yourself I was about to take this game out of the queue because of some of the reviews. And in reality I don't need to know the full story of the character all the time.
