the story was good, the graphics were nice, the controls was good like gears of war, the weapons were cool, but the campaign was too short and the multiplayer is horrible. there is no lvl seperation so you get creamed over and over again no matter what. plus if you want to go past lvl 5 on xbox live, you have to pay for the game or the code. this has become standard with THQ games nowadays. there is only 2 modes of play, team deathmatch and capture the flag. like everyone else says, it has no replayability at all.
This is my first peek into the Warhammer world, and it's not bad.
I just can't call it gripping. The story is definitely meant for WH40K fans, and doesn't open up much to newcomers, at least not until near the end. As for game mechanics, a stripped down simplified Gears of War (or a Transformers: War for Cybertron without the transformation) would best describe this. I can't call that a bad - it actually makes the game easy to plunge in to.
The melee combat and executions are probably the best part of the campaign. Combos are kept simple, yet with the 3 button sequences you can take on one tough foe or flatten dozens at once. Add to it the arsenal of weapons you can quickly draw and fire, and you can see why the Ultramarines are among the ranks of the Gamer Badasses.
But once campaign is completed, there is only a barebones multiplayer: Team deathmatch and command post capture with very few maps. But to be fair - what little it has works great. Little to no lag, and the "Copy" loadout feature evens the battlefield if you're a level one getting owned by higher ranks with better weapons.
This game will be a gem - once the price drops down to equal the content. Yet again, we see a $60 price tag on a game with $30 worth of content. Only the Achievements/Trophies offer reasons to replay the campaign.
