War of the Monsters for PS2 is an exceptional game based on Godzilla-type monsters battling it out in varied environments. The fighting is crisp and there's even a combo system based on juggles and stun attacks that keep the game fresh. There is great character design that runs the gamut of classic b-movies where the only special effects were people in rubber costumes fought on small-scale sets. The sound effects and music help bring the nostalgic effect home with convincing sound effects and subtle music. The only thing raining on this parade is the uneven challenge presented by the AI. Any level that requires you to fight more than one enemy at a time is nearly impossible on the higher difficulty since the computer will gang up and systematically dismantle you, while boss fights are relatively easy. The best part about this game is the versus mode where up to 4 monsters can battle at a time. Unfortunately there is no online and only two humans can compete at once. Ultimately, WOTM is a great game that deserves at least a rental. TO ALL GAME DEVELOPERS: PLEASE MAKE A SEQUEL!!!!

This game is about an alien invasion that's chaos leads to the creation of giant monsters. The only downside is bad graphics. It has very easy single player but has great multiplayer. Although I do find the finale of Story Mode a bit of a challenge. The game also has fun minigames. I normally only suggest buying a game if I give it 10 out of 10, but it's easy find a copy of this game for cheap at local video game shops, so it'd be fine to buy.

Finally, I give this game 8 out of 10.

War of the Monsters is a fun and fast-paced fighting game allowing the player to take control of one of ten different 100-foot-tall monsters and fight against other monsters. Environments are completely destructible, for the most part, and many objects, such as cars, debris, and radio towers can be picked up and hurled at other monsters. Each monster is given its own special attacks, strengths, and weaknesses. The game is given the look and feel of a 50's-era monster movie. Graphics are pretty good. You can easily tell what is going on. Players can simply fight other monsters one-on-one, have a free-for-all, or play mini-games, such as dodge ball. War of the Monsters is a great game for people who like Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, but gameplay is much more frantic. This game is definitely worth a rental, and, if you like to play with friends, also worth a purchase.
