After the letdown that was Smackdown vs Raw 2008, it was pretty apparent to many that the Smackdown series was going in the wrong direction. Ever since Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain on the PS2, the series went from being good, to mere lacking in comparison. Now with the release of Smackdown vs Raw 2009 it hopes to redeem itself, but does it?
Gameplay: 9/10
Honestly I was a bit skeptical of how they would improve the gameplay to where it was actually fun and maintained the Smackdown feel. It totally knocked me back when I played the match...everything from the graphics, to the short loading times and the way the wrestler controlled. The AI in the game is much smarter than the games 2007/2008 brand games. Tag matches are epic and exciting.
Graphics: 8/10
Everything from the character models to the ring environment is pretty detailed and accurate except for the crummy looking crowd.
Sound: 10/10
The game is really good in this department is top notch. All the wrestlers have there music. In this years game you can do the custom entrance music, where you can have your music on your HD as your wrestlers intro music.
Playability: 9/10
Hours of playtime through the Season mode and the Road to WrestleMania modes. There are new match types such as the Inferno Match, which is pretty fun as well as all the others like you come to expect.
Overall: 9/10
Smackdown Vs Raw 2008 Surprised from the start of play. It strongly redeems itself from the previous two games in the series. With so much to do in the game and Downloadable content for the future...this game will get even better. I strongly recommend purchasing this game, if you are unsure then just give it a rent and you will see what I mean about how much it has surpassed its predecessors.
