I'm very disappointed in this game. Ok so they add a few new features, Big deal. It's not like they were mind blowing. Then they take out GM mode. You can't even use your created wrestler in story mode. Which is one of the reasons I get the game in the frist place. An every year they tell us the same thing. This is going to be the best smack down game ever. Now it's strike three. They going to have to make some major improvements. To get me back as a fan. There so called tag team system. Is not that big of a accomplishment. Thats something that should of been in the game years ago. The roster wasn't anything special either. Are you kidding me no legends. I understand that there coming out with a legends game. Smack down doesn't feel right without the legends. Created wrestler seems to be losing features every year. The only good thing to this game was the Inferno match. This franchise is going down hill fast. And I know i'm not the only one that feels this way.
Let me start by saying I'm a big SvR fan. I've bought every one of the Smackdown games, and have, for the most part, enjoyed them. This is the first SvR game I will probably NOT buy, at least not yet. There are few improvements over the last SvR game. The first you may notice is that the load screens go by a LOT quicker than in previous games. The character creation aspect is just as strong as always. The Entrance creator will let you add your own song, which I thought was really cool. New to the series is the Finisher Creator. I was really looking forward to making my own finisher. And then I actually tried to make one, and it was... bleh. I was expecting a little more from this new feature, so I was slightly disappointed with the VERY basic stuff you can work with here. Gameplay is as solid as ever and the graphics are on par with last year's effort, if not slightly better. I kinda liked the Road to Wrestlemania. You choose from six (or 7) different superstars and follow their journey to WM24. Nothing groundbreaking here. In fact, after I finished three of the superstars RTW, I generally just skipped over the cut scenes so I could get to the matches. You get rewards for performing different tasks in RTW, such as new wrestlers, new movesets, and alternantive costunes. Kinda fun, but it mostly felt like a chore after the second story. Carrer mode felt a little RPG-ish this time around. You no longer get attribute points to distribute at the end of a match. Now you have to earn your attribute points by performing actions in the matches. For example, if you want to raise your speed attribute, you gotta perform a lot of running moves or dive of the turnbuckes. I really liked the way they did this, it felt different, although a bit frustrating at times. All in all, SvR 09 is a very decent game. If you're a fan of the series, you'll find some improvements to keep you coming back. I'm not sure if these are enough to justify a purchase nowadays, but try it.
I played 08, wasn't really satisfied with the gameplay and career mode. I like the Road To Wrestlemania, at least I'll be playing thru it different times with different stories. Wish they would've made it to incorporate your created wrestler.
